Supreme Court to rule on medical experts’ ‘excessive’ legal fees

One local expert retained as a witness over two days in a High Court action was paid €27,230 by the State Claims Agency while a second, who also attended the hearing over two days, was paid €19,870, the court was told

The Supreme Court is to consider whether allegedly “excessive” fees charged by two medical consultants in a clinical negligence case may have given rise to a perception of bias or a conflict of interest.
