State funding of €400k fires up Cartoon Saloon ahead of Netflix dragon feature

Kilkenny-based animation studio Cartoon Saloon has received €406,000 in funding from the Irish taxpayer through Enterprise Ireland, recent filings show.

It comes after the company revealed last month that it had been commissioned by Netflix to produce a new feature called My Father’s Dragon.

Cartoon Saloon was founded by Paul Young, Tomm Moore and Nora Twomey in 1999, and its projects have been nominated for Oscars, Golden Globes, Bafta and Emmy awards.
