Sparks were visible emanating from a Ryanair flight as it landed in Dublin on Sunday night, forcing the closure of the Southern runway for several hours.

The airport declared what it called a “full emergency” after Ryanair flight FR5542, a Boeing 737, from Liverpool suffered a suspected tire blowout to its nose landing gear, before coming to a halt on Runway 28 left.

The airport authority, DAA said passengers disembarked the aircraft normally. Air Traffic flows into Dublin Airport were restricted during the incident.

A spokesperson for the operator of Dublin Airport, daa, said: "Dublin Airport Fire Service responded, and the passengers disembarked the aircraft normally once the all clear was given by the Airport Fire Officer."

In a statement, Ryanair said the flight from Liverpool to Dublin "experienced a minor technical issue with its nose-landing gear upon landing".

As visible in a live stream of the incident, broadcast online by aviation enthusiasts AirportsLiveTV.com, emergency services were quickly in attendance at the aircraft, allowing all passengers to disembark safely.

National Ambulance Service personnel and medics met passengers on arrival inside the terminal. There was no reports of any injuries although one person was treated for shock.

Ryanair said the aircraft would be towed back to the hangar for further inspection by engineers. The DAA said that plane arrivals into Dublin Airport were suspended during the incident.

The South Runway at the airport remained closed for the evening.
