Smear test audits on hold pending findings of probe
The clinical auditing of cervical smear tests has been suspended pending a recommendation by the Scally inquiry which will examine a number of shortcomings in the screening programme and is due to be established in September.
The audit process, which was ongoing since 2010, identified 221 cases where women diagnosed with cervical cancer had previously been given inaccurate smear test results.
