Sligo seeks state help over royal bill

Debt-laden Sligo County Council is seeking state funding to cover the cost of Prince Charles’s historic visit last week.


The council engaged in an extensive programme of works, which included the tarmacking of roads, repairs to public buildings used during the visit and overtime by council staff. However, it is still grappling with a budget crisis, with a deficit of €21.7 million run up over the past six years.
