‘Silver splurge’: new AIB data shows over-65s spent big on fashion and hotels

New figures show that consumer spending increased in April when it came to social activities and clothing, but remained flat overall amid ongoing cost-of-living pressures

Consumers over the age of 65 have embarked on a “silver spending splurge”, with increased expenditure on clothing, hotels, pubs and off-licences in April, new figures show.

Data from AIB shows that average consumer spending on social activities and clothing increased in April which included the Easter holidays, even though overall daily expenditure remained at the same level compared to March.
