Scheme will protect rural landowners from walker compensation claims
Concern sparked by Wicklow case last year in which hiker awarded €40,000 after knee injury
Minister for Rural Affairs Michael Ring is setting up a new scheme to protect rural landowners against compensation claims from walkers.
It comes after a case last year in which a walker was originally awarded €40,000 for tripping and injuring her knee on the Wicklow Way, before it was later overturned on appeal.
Ring said he was working on a new bill which would indemnify landowners against any legal claims from walkers.
