RTÉ chair says broadcaster ‘dealing with’ leaks from board after director general appointment debacle

At the Oireachtas media committee, Siún Ní Raghallaigh said that she can’t make recent leaks “unhappen”

Siún Ní Raghallaigh: “I would say that the process that we went with [was] a rigorous process. It was competitive and it was a unanimous decision by the board. It's very unfortunate what happened.

Siún Ní Raghallaigh, chair of the RTÉ Board, said “we’re dealing with” leaks that emerged from the board during the director general appointment process.

In recent weeks, a series of reports in the media revealed inside details of the RTÉ Board’s recruitment process for a new director general of the national broadcaster before the process had concluded.

The leaks from the interview process first occurred on April 5, when it was revealed by this publication that David McRedmond, the An Post chief executive and favourite for the role, was out of the running. The next day, the Business Post also revealed that Kevin Bakhurst was the new favourite for the role.
