A small Kildare GAA club is just one of many facing crushing financial burdens in the wake of the Celtic Tiger years. As more cases come to light, the issue has become less of a local problem and more of an existential crisis for the GAA itself

Last week, John Horan, the president of the GAA, spoke in front of the Seanad. In his speech, he made sure to emphasise the club’s place at the centre of the Gaelic games community. In fact, he said, “at a time when rural Ireland is in turmoil, the GAA club is needed now more than ever”.
