A former red-light district in north inner city Dublin is an unusual place to stop on a journey from Spain to the Caribbean.

But that, according to Spanish tax authorities, is precisely the route millionaire soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo’s tax advisers used between 2011 and 2014 to help him avoid a tax bill they estimate at €14.7 million.
