The Policing Authority has said new information about road-side breath tests and road traffic offences raises "serious questions of integrity” for the Garda Síochána and provides further evidence of “deep cultural problems” within the service.

The authority, which oversees the Gardaí, today welcomed a public acknowledgement by the force that there were “major discrepancies” in the published data on breath tests. But it said it was “alarmed” by the scale of the discrepancies.
