Web Summit Rio gets underway in Rio with 20,000 people from 100 countries expected to attend

The first Web Summit-branded event to be held outside of Europe kicked off on Monday night with more than 20,000 people from close to 100 countries expected to attend the four-day-conference in Rio this week.

Originally planned for just 5,000 delegates, the organisers said the event was the fastest selling conference into date with final tickets snapped up weeks ago. Ticket prices ranged between R$2,045 (€373) to R$49,995 (€9,128).
