A ringside seat for history’s first draft

My time at The Sunday Business Post gave me the privilege of bearing journalist witness to many epochal events, from the Northern ceasefire to the horror of 9/11, writes Emily O’Reilly

The first significant story I recall writing for The Sunday Business Post concerned a dinner in Helsinki in 1993. The then leader of the Progressive Democrats, Des O’Malley, and his party colleague Pat Cox enjoyed a main course of Russian bear in the course of a convivial evening, during which O’Malley neglected to tell Cox of his intention to step down as party leader, which he promptly did on his return to Ireland.
