Retired chief justice Ronan Keane has attacked Minister Shane Ross’s proposals to reform the way judges are selected, calling them “unwanted and misconceived”.

The former judge called on the government to abandon the proposed bill, saying plans for non-lawyers to outnumber their legal and judicial counterparts on the new Judicial Appointments Commission (JAC) are “indefensible”.
