Residential property prices rose at the slowest rate in almost a year in July, rising 13 per cent year-on-year, compared with 14 per cent in June, figures from the Central Statistics Office showed. Outside of Dublin, property prices were 15.2 per cent higher than a year earlier, while residential property prices inside Dublin saw an increase of 10.4 per cent.

Google lost most of the first round of its battle to topple a landmark €4.3 billion European Union fine over its Android operating system for mobile phones. EU judges mostly backed the European Commission’s decision to impose the penalty, but cut the fine to €4.1 billion. The case is one of a trio of decisions that have been the centrepiece of EU antitrust chief Margrethe Vestager’s bid to rein in the growing dominance of Silicon Valley. Vestager has also fined Alphabet Inc.’s Google more than €8 billion, and has since opened new probes into the company’s suspected stranglehold over digital advertising.
