Relatives of Whiddy oil victims ask Varadkar for an apology

Relatives of the victims of the 1979 Whiddy oil tanker explosion have written to Leo Varadkar to demand a state apology and a full review of safety regulations in maritime and offshore energy operations in Ireland.

The relatives group announced last week that it intended to lodge a High Court action to have the victims’ death certificates revised to record their deaths as unlawful.
