Private bill will crack down on bogus self-employment

Up to €60 million could be recovered every year by clamping down on bogus self-employment in the professional sector

A new private bill is set to treat employers as tax cheats if they force their workers into bogus self-employment.

It comes after the Revenue Commissioners told the government that up to €60 million could be recovered every year by clamping down on bogus self-employment in the professional sector. Most of this is due to lost PRSI payments, as there is a lower rate of PRSI for self-employed workers.
