Pinergy, the renewable electricity provider, has called on the government to implement a cap on the price of wholesale electricity and introduce a windfall tax on energy generators amid rising costs for consumers and fears over companies exiting the market.

In its pre-budget submission, the Irish electricity reseller also urged Paschal Donohoe, the Finance Minister, to implement a zero per cent Vat rate on electricity in response to soaring costs.
