‘Perverse’ mussel farm row to cost state up to €4m

A mussel farm ‘mess-up’ has cost the state €2 million in compensation payments and legal fees, and could end up costing significantly more.

The issue arose after a company was banned from accessing its mussel beds in Wexford Harbour during the construction of a new sewage treatment plant. The firm successfully sued the local council for loss of earnings in a lengthy court battle which went all the way to the Supreme Court.
