Parents file lawsuit over Berkeley balcony tragedy

Plaintiffs want to bring to light 'carelessness and negligence'

The parents of six students killed in the Berkeley balcony collapse in June and seven injured students have begun lawsuits in California.

The cases are being taken against 35 defendants and are seeking punitive damages against property and construction-related firms associated with the apartment block. American lawyers

These include the apartment's owners BlackRock, builders Segue Construction and manager Greystar. A criminal investigation is underway into the case.
