Overwhelming majority of banned drivers don’t surrender licence
More than 85 per cent of banned drivers failed to surrender their licences last year. The Road Safety Authority is now calling for a roll out of technology which will allow gardaí to catch disqualified drivers on the spot after 10,240 people were disqualified from driving in 2018 and of these, just 1,417 licences were surrendered.
A disqualified driver is required to surrender their driving licence to the National Driver Licence Service within ten days of disqualification commencing.
