Number of new homes started falls by double digits as building slows

The number of new homes started in 2022 fell by double digits following a slowdown in construction activity in the second half of the year, new figures show.

Data published by the Building Control Management System (BCMS) shows the number of new housing commencements, a key measure of house-building activity, fell by more than 12 per cent last year to less than 27,000 units.
