New law will protect full details of screening audits from disclosure

The legislation, going through the Houses of the Oireachtas, is designed to ensure the future viability of Ireland’s screening programmes

Under the new bill, anyone who develops cancer will be able to request a review of their own personal screening history

Cancer-screening audits will be anonymised and fully protected from disclosure and litigation under new legislation, the Business Post has learned.

The move is being introduced as part of the Patient Safety Bill, which is making its way through the Houses of the Oireachtas, and is designed to ensure the future viability of Ireland’s screening programmes.
