Move to fix tax flaw affecting increase in minimum wage

The government is seeking to eliminate a tax system flaw which could wipe out the benefits of the forthcoming minimum wage rise for low paid workers.

The Low Pay Commission is widely expected to recommend an increase in the €8.65 per hour minimum wage when it reports back in the summer.

But the government is aware that a tax system flaw could wipe out any potential benefits for low paid workers.
