Carney to stay for Britain's EU talks

Decision ends speculation sparked by Brexit controversies

Bank of England Governor Mark Carney last night announced that he would stay in charge until 2019. This is a year more than the five years he originally committed to, but short of the usual eight-year term for a head of the central bank.

Carney said this would take his term beyond the period of Britain's Article 50 negotiations with the EU and would help secure "an orderly transition" to Britain's new relationship with Europe.
