64 per cent of GP practices refusing new applicants; entire towns bereft of vital medical services

GPs across the country are refusing to register new patients, forcing families without GPs to use out-of-hours services or local emergency departments for routine care.

All GP practices in some towns have closed their doors to new patients.

A snapshot survey of 104 GP practices across the country - four in every county - was carried out by this newspaper last week.
