Lobby group calls for revised approach to government ‘latte levy’

Retail Excellence says compostable and recyclable cups should be exempt from proposed 20 cent levy

Retail Excellence has said that a new approach is needed on a proposed 20 cent levy on single-use coffee cups, and that recyclable and compostable cups should be exempt from any such charge.

The so-called ‘latte levy’ has been proposed under the government’s recently adopted Circular Economy Act. While the act has been passed by the Oireachtas, the levy is yet to be rolled out.
