Landlord group to meet environment minister

A group representing landlords is set for crunch talks with environment minister Alan Kelly this week over plans to introduce a package of measures designed to curb rent increases and improve tenant rights.

A delegation from the Irish Property Owners’ Association, which represents around 5,000 landlords, will meet the minister for talks on Tuesday with a list of demands which include far reaching reforms of landlord obligations and the tax treatment of rental income.

The IPOA is likely to push for rental income to be treated as business income rather than what the group describes as “unearned income”.
