Labour finds it’s harder to take credit than blame

The latest opinion poll shows relative stability but, of the parties, Labour will be the most displeased with the fleeting nature of public approval

‘Events, dear boy, events.” This is supposed to have been the response of former British prime minister Harold Macmillan when asked what was most likely to blow governments off course. No political year is without its events, those happenings that are not foreseeable, or that at least were not foreseen.
