Job creation was so important to the outgoing government that when Taoiseach Enda Kenny was once asked about the importance of passing the same-sex marriage referendum, he began talking about employment.

“For me, the single biggest issue is our jobs and employment,” Kenny told reporters in December 2013. “This is what politics is about, this is about motivating people, about opening doors of opportunity, about sorting out the problems that are there.”
