Irishman Tony Murphy has been elected President of the European Court of Auditors (ECA).

Murphy, who is originally from Cabra in Dublin, previously worked for Ireland’s Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General before moving to Brussels to work as a national expert at the European Commission in 1999.
