The Irish Prison Service (IPS) has re-hired two former prison governors as consultants to examine practices such as payment of bail money and calculation of sentences.

The IPS is refusing to name the two former governors, who are earning consultancy salaries of €30,000 and €40,000 per year on top of their pensions. Both people are on 12-month contracts as consultants, with an option to extend them.
