New figures show the number of mortgages approved rose by 41%

TheIrish mortgage market started the year strongly, new figures released today show, with the number of mortgages approved rising by nearly 41 per cent on the previous year as an easing of Central Bank lending rules and the Help-to-Buy scheme for first-time buyers took effect.
