Ireland's trade surplus widened last year to €47.3 billion from €42.3 billion, CSO figures show

Irish exports rose to a record €116.9 billion last year, an increase of four per cent on 2015, the Central Statistics Office said. Here are the key points in its December goods exports and imports release:

- Ireland's trade surplus widened to €47.3 billion from €42.3 billion last year as exports rose by four per cent while imports declined by one per cent

- Imports totalled €69.6 billion, down €507 million on 2015
