Some TDs and senators have expressed concern that data protection laws currently going through the Oireachtas will allow political parties or candidates to process personal data relating to political opinions

A loophole in data protection laws currently going through the Oireachtas means that information could be manipulated to influence elections in a similar way to the activities of Cambridge Analytica – the company at the centre of a global voter manipulation scandal.
