A chief superintendent is to launch an internal investigation into claims that a garda whistleblower in Co Westmeath has been the victim of a two-year harassment campaign.
Garda Commissioner Nóirín O’Sullivan appointed Chief Superintendent Tony McLoughlin to handle protected disclosures last month, following a bruising dressing down from the Policing Authority in the wake of the O’Higgins report.
