Inflation drops to 7.2% in April but food prices keep on rising
It comes after the government met leading grocery sector retailers on Wednesday to discuss prices being charged to customers in Ireland
Inflation fell to 7.2 per cent in the 12 months up to April, down from 7.7 per cent in March, new figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) show.
The CSO said the largest increases during that period were experienced in the cost of housing, water, electricity and gas, and food and non-alcoholic beverages.
Electricity prices rose on an annual basis by 51.3 per cent in April, while gas jumped to 55.8 per cent.
