Independent inspector tells minister to make more rail lines to Cork and Belfast electric

Councillors pushing for more climate-friendly public transport services

Minister for Housing Eoghan Murphy has been told by an independent inspector to deliver more electrified train lines towards Cork and Belfast

Councillors representing 12 different counties had pushed for the move in the new regional and economic spatial strategy for the Eastern and Midlands Area.

Murphy initially issued a draft direction to reverse the move by the councillors, and then got an independent inspector, Patrick Ledwidge, to examine it.
