IDA to clear hazardous waste from illegal dump after 20 years

Around 22,000 cubic metres – roughly nine Olympic swimming pools – of mixed waste material was illegally deposited on two hectares of land at Belcamp in Clonshaugh

IDA Ireland is to clean up a site that it bought near Dublin Airport where huge quantities of hazardous medical waste were illegally dumped without its knowledge.

The state agency applied for permission to excavate and remove around 22,000 cubic metres – roughly nine Olympic swimming pools – of mixed waste material that was illegally deposited on two hectares of land at Belcamp in Clonshaugh. IDA Ireland bought the site two decades ago.
