Ibec calls for ‘flexible’ fiscal policy ahead of budget

Group warns cost pressures and tightening of financial markets leaves Ireland facing ‘significant global economic headwinds’

Offsetting the impact of rising energy costs facing businesses and households must be supported by emergency measures as part of this year’s budget, employers’ group Ibec has said.

In a pre-budget submission, the group recommended a €2 billion package to help deal with current inflationary pressures, but warned that the government must remain flexible and may need to go beyond measures announced next month.
