To celebrate the 1,500th edition of The Sunday Business Post, a number of former editors, journalists and executives write about the paper’s history and the stories that have defined the title

The full story of the troubled beginnings of The Sunday Business Post has never appeared in the pages of this newspaper – until now. As tales of traumatic business start-ups go, few compare with this one, not least because it played out under the noses of our staff, among them many of Ireland’s leading business journalists. A few tasters of that story: the company set up to publish The Sunday Business Post nearly imploded three weeks before the launch date. The first edition was to be published on November 26, 1989, but two days beforehand we had no printer.
