High Court quashes Abbott’s planning application for €10 million facility expansion

US healthcare and life sciences company had aimed to expand its infant formula manufacturing facility on the Cavan-Monaghan border

Abbott has said it is reviewing its options after the refusal of planning permission for a €10 million expansion of its infant formula manufacturing facility in Cavan/Monaghan

Abbott, the US healthcare and life sciences company, has said it is reviewing its options after the High Court quashed its planning application last week for a €10 million expansion of its infant formula manufacturing facility in Cootehill on the Cavan-Monaghan border.

An Bord Pleanála decided to concede the case after judicial review proceedings were brought against the proposed expansion by John Morehart, the American owner of nearby Bellamont House and forest.

“Since 1974, Abbott has been a part of the Cootehill community, where we manufacture high-quality infant formula that helps babies around the world grow and thrive. We are aware of An Bord Pleanála’s decision and will review our options,” the US multinational said in a statement to the Business Post.
