High Court dismisses Fianna Fail activist's gender quota challenge
Party had discretion in deciding gender quotas, judge said
The High Court has dismissed a challenge by Fianna Fáil activist Brian Mohan against the introduction of gender quotas.
Under the Electoral Amendment (Political Funding) Act 2012, political parties are required to field at least 30 per cent male and 30 per cent female candidates in the next two general elections. Parties that fail to meet the quota, lose 50% of their central exchequer funding.
