Harris vows to double number of civilians in Garda Síochána

The new Garda Commissioner, Drew Harris, has promised to double the number of civilians in the force to 4,000 during his time in office.

It is a significant commitment because 1,500 of the civilian recruits will be used to release 1,500 gardaí for front-line duties and the other 500 will take on new tasks.
