Ibrahim Halawa should be offered a counselling and rehabilitation programme on his return to Ireland, two senior Islamic clerics have said.

Halawa, a 21-year-old Irishman of Egyptian descent, was acquitted of all charges last week after spending four years in jail in Egypt.

He was arrested along with hundreds of others who protested against the ousting of the democratically elected Mohamed Morsi, a Muslim Brotherhood politician.
