Government drags heels on updating design of ‘freezing’ school prefabs

The Department of Education has failed to update the 14-year-old design guidelines for school prefabs despite starting a review two years ago. There are thousands of children going to school in some 1,300 prefabs located in 345 primary and secondary schools around the country.

The department has been planning to introduce better design standards because pupils in some of the prefabs have complained they are freezing in wintertime.
