Government breaches privacy law with child data demand, DPC rules

The Department of Social Protection has breached privacy laws by demanding information about children from their parents using the threat that their child benefit will be cut off if they do not provide it, the Data Protection Commissioner (DPC) has ruled.

The ruling means that the individual who complained can consider legal action against the department.
