General Electric to install emergency Dublin power station in bid to avoid blackouts

The development comes as problems with generators and cold weather have put the country’s electricity system under strain

General Electric, one of the largest conglomerates in the world, has reached an agreement to install an emergency power plant for the ESB.

The contract, which it will carry out with MytilIneos, a Greek conglomerate, comes amid serious concerns over the ability of Ireland’s electricity system to meet demand.
