Gambler claims Betfair staff helped him ‘circumvent’ addiction control systems

Developer Lee Gibson is suing the Flutter group subsidiary for £1.4 million, claiming negligence and breach of industry codes of practice

Court filings allege that Gibson, who runs a property development firm, opened a Betfair account in 2009 and that by 2012 Betfair staff should have known that he was at risk or was experiencing harms associated with gambling.

A problem gambler is suing a betting firm within the Dublin headquartered Flutter Entertainment group for £1.4 million after claiming he was told by staff how to “circumvent” responsible gambling queries in order to keep betting.

Lee Gibson has lodged a case in the London High Court against TSE Malta LP, trading as Betfair, which is part of the same group that owns Paddy Power.
