GAA 'in dereliction of responsibility to club players'

Former Wexford hurling manager Liam Griffin, the fixtures coordinator for the Club Players’ Association, says its proposals have run into a brick wall

Liam Griffin says GAA not transparent enough

The GAA is in dereliction of its responsibility to club players, is too political, and is not transparent enough, according toformer Wexford hurling manager Liam Griffin.

Griffin was speaking after a motion to publish how each delegate voted -- the so-called transparency motion -- was voted down by 83 per cent at the recent GAA congress.

Griffin is the fixtures coordinator for the Club Players’ Association, which has been campaigning for a new fixtures calendar to unclog the blockages that have been bedevilling the club game for years - and leading many young footballers and hurlers to quit the games. The CPA has developed several proposed new fixture calendars only to run into a brick wall, according to Griffin.
